About Michael Flynn

Michael’s foray into acting began in high school in the Washington D.C. area.  Acting was his second choice.  Playing second base for the New York Yankees was his first.  But, as a freshman in high school he failed to make the football, basketball and baseball teams.

So, he tried out for a play.  Bernardine.  He got the part of Mack and found that acting was something at which he could compete.

When he graduated from Brigham Young University he and an acting cohort moved to the San Jose, CA area and started a small theater in the round.  The Santa Clara Arena Theater.  A few years later he ventured south to Los Angeles where he worked with Lex de Azevedo producing, directing and acting in numerous musicals.

Michael then traveled north to Utah where he continued his career with touring musicals.  It was here in Utah that he started acting in film.  His first film was Savannah Smiles, followed closely by Footloose

Since then he has focused on film, appearing in over 100 film and television projects.    Most notably: Halloween Town High, The Best Two Years, The Core II, Blank Slate, The Dance, Home of Our Own, Desperate Hours, Matlock, Moonlighting, Touched by an Angel, Everwood, Promised Land, Walker Texas Ranger, Crossroads, The Man with Three Wives, Bitter Markings, Unforgiveable, The President’s Child, Evil in Clear River, The Executioner’s Song, Stranger on My Land, A Hobo’s Christmas, A More Perfect Union, Nothing Lasts Forever, Friends for Life, Heber Holiday, The Last Sin Eater, Edge of America, Halloween 4, and many others.  (IMDB Resume)

Michael has said:  “I believe that my theater background prepared me well for a career in film and television.  There is a certain dedication and discipline that is drilled into you when you study theater.  I’m grateful for that.  I try to share that passion with my workshop participants.”

A few years ago he started producing film.  His first project was The Best Two Years, which has proved to be a resounding hit in the niche market of LDS films.  “Scott Anderson and I had produced the play The Best Two Years of My Life, which Scott had written, produced, directed and acted in.  It was extremely popular.  So, I called him a few years ago and said we needed to make a film of the play.  Scott was busy with other projects at the time, but finally succumbed to my pestering.  We shot the film in 2003 and it has touched lives around the globe.  We are planning more films together.”

Other producing credits include The Dance, Heber Holiday and Friends for Life.  He and Shelley have several projects in the works.  That is one of the reasons they started The Actors Workshop.  They are looking for new faces to appear in upcoming projects.

Michael has taught acting for many years, mostly in Salt Lake City, Utah.  He is pleased to open The Actors Workshop and give aspiring and experienced actors an opportunity to work and study locally.
